I really couldn't help myself, we're nearing the 20 week mark now (halfway) and felt compelled to get this particular item of baby clothing:
There's just no resisting paternal enthusiasm and the inner geek combined. I may even invest in a baby backpack so I can carry my little boy/girl around on my shoulders Luke-stylee :D Yes, I'm a man in need of help.

Well I've been between MMOs for sometime now but my first love was Star Wars Galaxies (SWG). It ticked all the Star Wars geek boxes and, originally, was wonderfully free form and fun to play. Well as many people can tell you SWG was rather brutally dumbed down probably in a wasted effort to attract WoW players and it hasn't been the same since.
However, I don't want to go on an extended moan about the game's current short comings. No, this entry is here only to present a few choice screen shots that made me long for the old days, when most of my friends still played and I was happy being a force sensitive Master Doctor/Pistoleer.

First you build your X-wing, then you launch it! Sadly take off proved too much for the model, but damn it looked amazing for a few seconds. I love it when I see fans try mad stuff like this, I hope they try again, I want to see if Mk.2 will fly further. Of course they shouldn't have bothered with opening the S-foils, if these guys read round a bit they'd know wings stay closed for atmospheric flight... (Sorry the inner geek demanded I say it.)
In other news, the undergrads are back today, which means I'm going to be lucky if I get any of my own work done for the foreseeable future. Here's hoping none of them set themselves alight this year.

Well all done for this holiday, Celebration Europe was lots of fun if a bit hectic...
Where to start, well Friday was relatively quiet we got to see Mark Hamill talk which was great. He seemed remarkably relaxed and surprisingly happy to be in a room surrounded by rabid geeks :D The talk he gave was relaxed and funny, he and Warwick Davis were both entertaining as were some of the old clips shown. I have to say I was very disappointed to miss Mark's autograph session, I was hoping to get both his and Billy's scribbles but failed to do so :( The queues were pretty damn evil, and I just couldn't find much time to hop in them between shows... Ah well there's always next time I guess. Anyway to sum up, I can't believe how nice the guy is even after all these years of lunatic fans pestering him.
Other noteworthy, events on Friday were... encountering a fan dressed up as the slave Leia it was rather memorable for not knowing quite where to look. Bren grabbed a picture with her (I think she was the lass on the far right here), but tactfully avoided grabbing anything on show lol. As you can see I subsequently learned that there were quite a few of these brave (mad?) ladies when I came across this website in a TFN news story. Kudos to them for braving London and the convention in such advanced states of undress! :D I wonder if I can convince Astraad... Actually better not I like to live too much hehe.
Last but not least the one man star wars show, Charles Ross was hilarious (Look out for Jabba the Hutt) I'd love to say more but I wouldn't like to spoil it for those who haven't seen him. It was witty, silly, well observed and quite affectionate. I highly recommend it to any fan, I can only hope he does the prequels too in time...
More to come and pics in a bit...
Well it's nearly time for Star Wars celebration Europe! I'm beginning to really look forward to it, should be a fantastic geek's weekend where I can buy a load of over priced merch I don't really need :D Great stuff!
Better yet we've got a friend visiting from the US to attend with us, so it'll be a chance to do a little tour of London between/after conventioneering... Not that I know the docklands very well, Westminster was my old stomping ground but that's what the Tube is for eh? The only fly in the ointment is Fraz, another old SWG friend won't be coming due to expensive household repairs. :( Life seems to be strewn with these annoying inconveniences, I'll see if I can find a little something to post up as a consolation prize ;)
On a related but tangential note... I wonder why the Royal Navy and British Army are listed as exhibitors? Last I checked E11s and lightsabres weren't standard issue :D I shall have to look out for them and let you know.
